Chicago Christmas Extravaganza 2008

We've been talking about this for a couple years now... and we finally did it! It started out a cool & very rainy Tuesday. We all gathered at the Drake Hotel on the northern end of Michigan Avenue for their renowned holiday afternoon tea (on the right above.) Live harp music of Christmas classics from the Nutcracker to "Santa Baby" floated in the air as we sipped our teas and ate the finger sandwiches and scones. Then we went for what we imagined would be our Christmas stroll down Michigan Avenue... the sleet and snow driving into our faces made it a bit less leisurely than planned, but we still felt very Christmasy, and stopped in a few favorite stores to warm up along the way. Our final destination was Marshall Fields (now owned by Macy's but I refuse to refer to it as that) for dinner under their 45-feet tall tree (on the left above) and a stroll through their Christmas-land holiday displays. Making our way home, the weather had finally turned to soft & fat snowflakes. This was actually the first time we had done all of this together, but we'll go ahead and call it a tradition.
