Questions for this week #2

It's so frickin' cold here in Chicago and winter seems so endless, I thought I'd put in winter-related questions (answer any or all):

1.) Favorite way to warm up/cozy up when it's really cold.
2.) Your escaping-winter fantasy
3.) Funny/fun winter-related anecdote.

(My answers in the comments)

  1. 1.) In Ohio it was always a long hot bath. I did one here the other night. Through Netflix I can stream tv shows onto my computer - so I brought my laptop in and took a hot bath and watch tv at the same time!

2.) Whenever I catch a glimpse of sunshine I strongly fantasize about being somewhere, anywhere, with lots and lots of sunlight that lasts long into the evening.

3.) I haven't moved my car in six weeks (it's parked on the street) and there's such a huge pile of snow and ice beside it that I don't think I could if I wanted to at this point. I'll just have to wait for April.

  2. 1.) Best way to warm up: put a blanket in the dryer for a few minutes, then wrap up in it immediately. Having a cat available is good, too.

2.) Best ways to not think about winter: look through a flower seed catalog or read a long book set in Mexico, Asia, or Africa.

3.) Winter story: I remember playing Fox and Geese when I was a kid. In the snow you make a big circle with a big X in the middle of the circle--like a pie cut into four pieces. The geese players stay on the circle, the fox player stays on the X and tries to catch the geese. It's Darwinian.

  3. 1. Definitely a hot shower. Or cuddling up with any or all of my boys.

    2. At night, when I am freezing while nursing Jake, I imagine getting off a plane in the tropics. The way the heat rises up off the tarmac as you walk to the airport, the palm trees and smells of diesel and cooking fires.

    3. Drawing a blank here ...

  4. 1. Hot chocolate, blankets and my honey in Chicago. At 1471, laying down by the stove with my feet under the stove. Ahh the stove.

    2. I often find myself thinking of sitting beside Lake Michigan watching the sailboats. That is my happy place.

    3. I still find it so funny, but I remember when Mom and Dad's toilet froze over in their bedroom.

  5. 1.The only way to get warm in this house on a really cold windy day is standing/sitting by the stove. I prefer standing so I can turn from front to back/side to side and get roasty toasty all over. The hearth is warm so my feet get warmed while I'm turning. (It's a good thing I'm not an edible animal- as I'm reading this it sounds like the next step would be to salt me and put me on a fork!)
    2. I think of that first really warm spring day when the sun is brilliant and I can just sit in the warm soil in my garden and look around and soak in the green and the warm and the sounds and the wind. Ahhh
    3. My memory is being jogged- I'm a little girl- going sledding/skating, being confined in a snowsuit, cold to the bone, half a mile walking distance from home and having to pee. Sheer misery!

  6. I think "roasty toasty" belongs under the "Millerisms" post!

  7. 1) We have a really nice down comforter for our bed. So snuggling under that, with the flannel sheets, is the coziest place to be in the winter.
    2) I don't mind winter too much (as long as it ends in March) so not too much fantasizing. Going for a run makes me feel like I'm out-dueling the weather. Unless it's too cold to run....
3)A few days ago Eve came into the room and said "It's freakin' cold in here."
